Since then I've heard that the defender's level plays a role in some cases so I'm not sure. Defender's level was not part of the formula I used, just attacker's level, attack, and defense.
I play max settings as well, though I only play about 20-30 minutes a day. I'm able to play up to 30 minutes before it starts to heat up before throttling on medium settings. Lowering graphics settings might help. Try setting everything as low as possible, especially shadows, blur, and isometric fog.
